No interest for internal competition -- please contact Barbara Earl to discuss
Date Posted: March 4, 2008
Deadline for internal competition: April 21, 2008
Agency deadline for Letter of Intent (REQUIRED) for AGEP: May 30, 2008
Agency deadline for Full AGEP Proposal: June 27, 2008
Agency deadline for Full LSAMP Proposal: October 10, 2008
Sponsor: National Science Foundation
Limit on number of proposals: Only one proposal may be submitted per alliance. A single institution may participate in only one alliance. The lead institution's Principal Investigator for the AGEP must be either the Provost or the Graduate Dean. The Principal Investigator for the LSAMP must be the Provost.
The ABP cluster enables seamless transitions from the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) baccalaureate to attainment of the doctorate and entry to the STEM professoriate.
ABP support begins at the baccalaureate level through the LSAMP program. LSAMP emphasizes development of broad based regional and national alliances of academic institutions, school districts, state and local governments, and the private sector to increase the diversity and quality of the STEM workforce. The LSAMP program also supports education research projects focused on STEM baccalaureate degree attainment.
AGEP furthers the graduate education of underrepresented students through the doctorate level, preparing them for fulfilling opportunities and productive careers as STEM faculty and research professionals. AGEP also supports the transformation for institutional culture to attract and retain STEM doctoral students into the professoriate.

If you are considering submitting a letter of intent, please contact RGS's training coordinator, John Augusto (864-7351, jaugusto@ku.edu), to discuss this initiative as soon as possible.
Also, I ask you to alert Barbara Earl (864-7781, bearl@ku.edu) that you will be submitting a pre-proposal one week prior to the internal deadline. This information will assist RGS in organizing the review committee.
The pre-proposal should include (1) a three-page narrative (stating which track interests you [AGEP or LSAMP], describing the proposed research, including key personnel and partnerships, addressing any special components requested in the agency's solicitation [p.7-Program Description; p.15-Additional Eligibility Information; p.20-Additional Review Criteria], and a generalized yearly budget) and (2) a short vita for the PI and all co-investigators, including funding history and current and pending support. Investigators may include suggestions of faculty members whom they believe are especially well qualified to evaluate pre-proposals for this initiative. Please submit this material electronically to Barbara Earl, manager of Proposal Services, by 5 p.m. on April 21, 2008 (bearl@ku.edu, 864-7781).
If the number of pre-proposals exceeds the mandated limit, an internal review committee will be formed to review all pre-proposals. The committee's intent is to select a proposer by May 2, 2008, thereby giving the proposer four weeks to prepare for the required LOI for the AGEP, and an additional month for the full AGEP proposal submission. If the LSAMP initiative is chosen to proceed, then the proposer has more than five months to prepare for the full proposal submission.
If you have any questions about the solicitation or the process described above, please contact Barbara Earl.
