GRA SAS health insurance reimbursement

Important note: Beginning with the 2007-2008 academic year, the University of Kansas will be offering one insurance plan for GTAs and GRAs. As a result, there will no longer be reimbursements of health insurance premiums. Payment of the premium on the health insurance enrollment form is the student's responsibility. As a result, all reimbursement requests on the GRA SAS Health Insurance plan for the 2006-2007 academic year (spring 2007 and summer 2007 semesters) must be received no later than October 1, 2007. Requests received after this date will be ineligible for reimbursement.

Policy

To be eligible for health insurance, International graduate research assistants must hold at least a 50% appointment for a minimum of eight consecutive work weeks during the semester, and for the summer session, the student must hold at least a 50% GRA position for a minimum of four consecutive weeks. The GRA appointment and KUCR funding must be effective by the 1st day of the month following the start of classes for the semester the reimbursement is requested.

If the SAS health plan is chosen, rather than the State of Kansas plan, the appointment must be funded on KUCR grant funding. To apply, a request for reimbursement form must be completed. This form can be downloaded below, or the form is available to be picked up in 116 Youngberg Hall. Eligible GRA's will be reimbursed 75% of the SAS insurance cost based on a prorated annual premium for each academic semester. (See chart provided below) This is considered taxable income and will be added to your W-4 or 1042S. The application for reimbursement form must be delivered to 116 Youngberg Hall. Upon verification of employment and verification of payment by the student to the insurance company, a check will be issued and mailed to the address given on the reimbursement request form. Reimbursements will be made for the current semester and the semester immediately preceding the current semester.

GRA's funded from any state, endowment or GRF funds are not eligible for this reimbursement.
