Definitions:

GRA Level 1:
First-year students (pursuing a M.A. or Ph.D. degree) without prior postgraduate degree and lacking substantial experience in the research methods and skills required by the GRA position.
GRA Level 2:
For students who fit one of the following four categories:
  1. First-year students (pursuing a M.A. or Ph.D. degree) with a prior appropriate postgraduate degree yet lacking substantial experience in the research methods and skills required by the GRA position;
  2. First-Year students pursuing a M.A. or Ph.D. yet with substantial experience in the research methods and skills required by the GRA position;
  3. Later-year students pursuing a M.A. degree, regardless of research skills; and
  4. Later-year students pursuing a Ph.D. degree who lack substantial experience in the research methods and skills required by the GRA position and who are making only satisfactory (as opposed to "good" or better) progress toward completion of their degree.
GRA Level 3:
For students who fit one of the following two categories:
  1. 2nd or 3rd year students pursuing a Ph.D. degree who lack substantial experience in the research methods and skills required by the GRA position yet who are making good or excellent progress toward completion of their degree; and
  2. Later-year students pursuing a Ph.D. degree yet with substantial experience in the research methods and skills required by the GRA position and who are making only satisfactory (as opposed to "good" or better) progress toward completion of their degree.
GRA Level 4:
For students who fit one of the following two categories:
  1. 2nd or 3rd year students pursuing a Ph.D. degree with substantial experience in the research methods and skills required by the GRA position and who are making good or excellent progress toward completion of their degree; and
  2. Post-3rd year students pursing a Ph.D. degree who lack substantial experience in the research methods and skills required by the GRA position yet who are making good or excellent progress toward completion of their degree.
GRA Level 5:
For post-3rd-year students pursuing a Ph.D. degree with substantial experience in the research methods and skills required by the GRA position and who are making good or excellent progress toward completion of their degree.
